History of Great Lakes Chi Alpha
Chi Alpha has had a presence on the campuses of the Great Lakes for over 40 years. In the ebb and flow of those years, many people were reached with the message of the Gospel and trained to be disciplemakers.
In 2005, Chi Alpha Campus Ministries USA entered into a five year strategic plan entitled Chi Alpha 2010. Several initiatives were identified and the need for a national presence in the field to implement the initiatives became apparent. In response, the position of Area Director was created.
National Chi Alpha appointed Rev. Stephen Lehmann, veteran Chi Alpha missionary at Eastern Michigan University, as the director for the Great Lakes Area. Steve, along with his wife Rev. Belkis Lehmann, began to formulate a plan to plant a ministry on every campus to every student.
During their first term of service they:
- visited all the current Chi Alpha ministries in the area
- recruited a team and established an office in Plainfield, IN
- developed a coaching model for church sponsored groups
- developed training and gathering events for staff personnel
- appointed Jeff Alexander as Indiana Chi Alpha Director
- appointed Gary Miller as Michigan Chi Alpha Director
- appointed Steve Brannan as Ohio Chi Alpha Director
